Not Just Eye Candi

August 5, 2010

Ok, I must admit that this is not one of our “typical” fashion posts, but it is definitely something super trendy worth checking out. How many of you out there remember, as a kid, your love for dressing up, acting girly and the love for anything sweet? Well the newly opened bar on Mount Royal has the perfect mixture of those childhood memories for  the now-older socialite who has yet to loose their “young-at-heart” attitude. It’s Montreal’s new treat, for adults.

Candi Bar is a new success born from the owners of Go-Go Lounge and Chez Serge. Paulo and Berkani have been working on this concept for 3 years now, and 3 months ago they were finally able to see all their hard work come to life.

The bar is small, but in a very welcoming way. Right from the start you feel like you have entered an entirely different world – the “foyer” so to speak, is a tryppy swirl of colours and lip logos. The place is almost like a mixture of your childhood playroom and Willy Wonka. The bar itself is entirely made of MegaBlocks and has 3 large slush machines behind it.

The drink menu is served up on a large lollipop, with funky names like Tiffany’s & Co and Sushi, and consist of vodka flavored slushes mixed together, each with their own type of candy accompanying it.  Your definitely in for a treat when you taste these creations, which the owners made specially for the bar.

If your thinking “man thats so cool” wait untill you hear this: the stools look like womans legs, so when you sit down and look around it gives you the impression that everyone is standing! The bathrooms are even cooler. You know how girls all love to go 2-by-2 to the restrooms? Well the owners took this to a whole new level by making one of the stalls have 2 toilets that face eachother. As for the mens room, giant Rolling Stone-esq lips placed on the wall are actually urinals. Also, as the owner mentioned to us, the candy machines placed on each table hold a different kind of candy – this was done purposely to creat a sort of mix-and-mingle among guests when they want to visit another table in search of candy.

Candi bar is a sweet treat for an older croud, without making anyone feel like they are too young. They have created a place that alows you to be flirty and girly and young, all whilebeing around people within their mid 20’s to 30’s.

Not only is this place fun, but it gets packed fast, which in Montreal, means one thing – a complete hit for the nightlife of this city. The people who work there are amazing too, sugesting drinks and insiting that everyone get a different drink to test out the menu. The owners are fantastic as well, and if you pay attention on a busy night (which is basically every weekend at Candi) you might catch them runing between bouncers, dj and their manager Atim .

Sweet treats not so much your thing? Think it’s too girly? Well, lucky for you they still do offer other cocktails and beers at the bar – this way you can drag your significant other or group of guy friends along with you! The music is great too, with a little bit of bublegum-pop like Kelly Clarkson, and artists like Basement Jaxx, Blink 182, Empire of the Sun etc.

This place is super trendy, with everyone looking casual-chic, girly and flirty, it is THE place to be caught in Montreal nightlife right now. Highly recommend it and it is the perfect place for a great girls night out!!

Be warned – the place gets super packed REALLY fast, so go early and avoid the line up! By 10pm, don’t be shocked to see the line up starting to form its way down the block.  Another little suprise we were happy to hear is that Candi Bar is open WEEKDAYS starting at 5! Now this is the perfect place to go for happy-hour to end your day on a good note after those long hours at work.
