2010 Grammy Overview

February 6, 2010

Sorry for the delay ladies and gents, its been a crazy week with lack of computer but it wont happen again!

The stars hit the red carpet last sunday for the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, making heads turn as always – for good or bad.

I still can not believe that Taylor Swift won over Beyonce and Lady Gaga. I don’t have anything against her at all, I actually do like her but when youv got two divas like Beyonce and Gaga.. THATS where the real competition is. Either way, I am happy for for Taylor she has come a long way this year for a country singer.

Take a look at some of the fab outfits the celebs wore on the red carpet, and the ones i thought were the best or worst just below.

Beyoncé, in Stéphane Rolland

Lady Gaga, in Armani Privé.

Gaga, you never seise to amaze. Love her or hate her, you have to admit she brings a whole new level to fashion. And i personally love it no mater how strange it is at times.

Taylor Swift, in Kaufman Franco

She always manages to look great when glamed up. Loved the colour and sparkle.

Fergie, in Emilio Pucci with Cartier jewels and a Leiber clutch

Pink

Pink took a different approach then previous years for her Grammy outfit – instead of black she opted for all white and looked great. Wonder what the reason for the change was? New beginnings? Who knows, but it was a good change this year.

Ciara, in Givenchy Haute Couture

Jennifer Nettles, in Victoria Beckham.

Jennifer Lopez, in Versace with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Christian Louboutin shoes.

Im not sure where JLo has been recently but when she walked on stage i was taken back. At first i did not recognize her because i was too busy gawking at how great she looked. Shes got an amazing body for that dress – look at those legs! and the heels! Another fav

Nicole Kidman, in Prada

Rihanna, in Elie Saab Haute Couture

Keri Hilson, in Dolce & Gabbana.

Love, love, love, love, LOVE!! the cut and fit of this dress is absolutely STUNNING. I would kill to have this. And her body. This is the style of my dream wedding dress. I believe this is by far one of my favorite outfits of the evening.

Céline Dion, in Aquilano.Rimondi

All i can say is, that at 41 i want to look as good as Celine does – and have this dress.

Mary J. Blige, in Gucci

Katy Perry, in Zac Posen

Britney Spears, in Dolce & Gabbana.

Oh Brit Brit. What can i say? I was NOT a fan of her outfit at all. Sometimes she can look so great, but this outfit for me was a total fail. Maybe loose the fishnets? its Dolce & Gabbana after all.

Miley Cyrus, in Hervé Léger by Max Azria

Miley, Miley, Miley. So young, and so many hair extensions. She looked great but if i did not know any better i would have said she looked to be in her early 20’s when she walked on stage sunday -but i don’t mean that in a bad way at all. Many younger stars, in my opinion, are dressing much older then they should and it does not suit them whatsoever. Miley, on they other hand, pulls it off almost every time.

Kristen Bell, in Etro.

Jennifer Hudson, in Victoria Beckham.

Another Victoria Beckham design that showed off Hudsons curves in all the right places. Another fave of mine.

Carrie Underwood, in Edition by Georges Chakra

Lea Michele, in Romona Keveza

I love Glee, and i really like Lea Michele. She is a very petit girl with an amazing voice and she looked absolutely fab wearing her Romona Keveza dress. Big difference from the cardigans and school girl style we see her in for the show now isn’t it?

Kaley Cuoco, in Nicole Miller

I found a lot of people had no clue who Kayley was when she went on stage to present the nominees. Still unsure? Let’s go back a bit – anyone remember the show “8 Simple Rules to Dating my Teenage Daughter” with John Ritter? Or how about what she is currently on – “The Big Bang Theory” as the hot blonde living across the hall from an apartment of nerds.  I thought the deep neckline on her dress was absolutely stunning.

MAD MAUS

January 25, 2010

Gibran Ramos at the MAD MAUS media party - January 21st 2010 [Photo cred: Sophie Tremblay

As mentioned earlier, MAD MAUS will be launching FAM MAUS on February 20th.

This past Thursday (January 20th) Patrick de Grace and Gibran Ramos hosted a media party at VELVET in the Old Port in Montreal, to discover this new and amazing concept – a mixture of  fashion, art, design, electro music, pop culture and a childhood fetish for drawing Mickey Mouse ears.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet and interview both Patrick  (who is in charge of PR, among many other things)  and Gibran (who is the original mastermind behind MM as well as Artistic Director). They were great to talk to and hear the background of the MAD MAUS concept as well as the event. Velvet was the perfect place for the party, with its dark underground vibe setting the mood of a “mouse trap” as Patrick described. Balloon strings hung down from the unfinished ceilings, very interesting and fashionable people, crazy vogue-dancing  by some insanely (theme) dressed brothers,  film clips playing against the brick wall in one corner, as the DJ pumped out some great music and photographers snapped pictures paparazzi style.

You can catch the interviews on the DROP YOUR SKIRT WebTV once it’s aired. Don’t worry, I will let you know as soon as it’s up – even though you should all be checking the Indecent Xposure WebTV page regularly for all shows!!

Stay tuned Montreal because we will DEFINITELY be keeping tabs on MAD MAUS between now and the launch in February. Everyone here at DROP YOUR SKIRT is really excited for the launch and to see what the impact will be on Montreal fashion, and we wish all the best to Patrick and Gibran with this project.

Jessica Stam for Fashion Magazine

January 25, 2010

Fashion Magazine has to be one of my long-time favorite  Canadian fashion magazines. It never has too many advertisements and covers everything from Canadian (specifically Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver) designers, photographers, models and stores – to international big wigs. Great articles, photos and shopping tips that i don’t always have to run across the border to try and get ahold of for myself (though sometimes it is called for).

Ontario born model, Jessica Stam, graces the cover and  an 8 page spread of the February edition of Fashion.
Check out some of the fab photos in the mag, or some of her other shoots online. For some reason the photos from this shoot were impossible to find, but once i do get them I will post them up for all of you.

Sounds like it will be interesting, I’ll be keeping my eyes and ears open for when it will be released.
